At Dayone Germany, we developed an integrated car search feature. With us, there's a Volkswagen for everyone.

The integration of a car search allows users to browse through our inventory of new and certified pre-owned VW vehicles.

The Volkswagen website primarily catered to new car buyers with model selection, the showroom, and the vehicle configurator. To provide a corresponding counterpart for the target group of used and pre-owned car buyers, Dayone Berlin got tasked with developing an online sales platform for existing vehicles.

With the car search tool, the team and I developed a service application for the online sales of new, nearly new, and used cars within the digital Volkswagen ecosystem in Germany. It required the development of a high-performance and resilient fully responsive web app based on corporate systems, by defined non-functional requirements. Also, the integration and standardization of diverse data interfaces within a generic backend service was needed, to ensure that presented vehicles are consistently and qualitatively displayed on the surface. We planned the creation of a modular and flexible platform, which can serve as a basic solution for the incorporation into additional brands within the corporation and/or integration within other brand offerings and products.

The ability to integrate all nearly new and used car online marketing and media activities on the platform to achieve corresponding conversion objectives. The generation of high-quality leads for dealers to reduce vehicle holding times. The establishment of a platform that can gradually introduce and test new digital business and sales models.

Revolutionizing Online Car Buying: Elevating Used and Nearly New Purchases to New Car Standards.

The Autosuche team comprised experts from diverse fields, enabling the harmonization of digital product organization and ensuring effective digital workflows. With the Car Search application, we created a service for the digital Volkswagen ecosystem in Germany, transformed the online purchase of used and nearly new cars into an experience akin to buying a new car.

It offered an easy entry point for vehicle search with the most important criteria, along with advanced search features for experts, including extensive filters and refining options. As the lead Senior Art Director on the project, my responsibility was to achieve the following objectives:

  • Iterative development process of the platform (since 2013) across three design generations
  • Implementation and operation as nutzfahrzeugsuche.de for the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand
  • Establishment of direct end-to-end online sales within the product and service process for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles
  • Development of additional platform touchpoints: Android / iOS app with an Apple Watch extension, Facebook Messenger used car chatbot, utilization on PoS touch tables in selected car dealerships as a self-service offering for visitors
